THE WHY AND HOW OF TRIBAL CHURCH PLANTING , David Knapp
New Tribes Mission is on the cutting edge of church planting in primitive, tribal regions of the world today. Answering the hard questions about WHY and HOW in taking the gospel to tribal people who have never been approached with Christianity before in history will be discussed. Learn about the team and skills required to start a church in a remote area. You can get a glimpse of the barriers to be crossed to establish a Biblically based body of Christ in cultural groups with no God-base to begin with.

1) SIGNS OF LIFE, Albert Bickford
How many sign languages are there in the world? Hundreds! Deaf people develop them to meet their communicative needs, independent of the spoken language that surrounds them. They are full and complete languages, with their own grammar. So, from a missions perspective, Deaf communities around represent distinct people groups that are often overlooked. Yet, their needs for the Gospel are the same as anyone else. This workshop introduces the needs for Bible translation in these languages and how those needs are currently being addressed by Deaf and hearing people working together.
2) “Sharing the Gospel with Oral Learners.”
Robin Soard graduated from Howard Payne University in December of 2004. By July of 2005 she and her co-worker, Elizabeth Wilson, moved to India where they worked for 2 years among the Kahani* people, an un-reached people group. Robin shares,
“We learned the Kahani language, studied their culture, and developed relationships with people. Then in May 2006 we began working on putting Biblically accurate, culturally relevant, oral Bible stories in Kahani.* Through many prayers and hard work 29 Bible stories were developed and over 200 Kahani people heard God’s Word. We were also able to help train several national Christian workers to use these stories for outreach and discipleship. One of my greatest joys during the two years I spent in South Asia was my friendship with Precious.* Precious,* who isn’t a believer, helped us write up the stories in Kahani.* After she heard some of the stories she wanted to hear and learn more about Jesus. Then she started telling the stories to her friends and family. She’s heard over 70 Bible stories and has been reading the Bible and attending church to learn more. We’re continuing to pray that Precious* will make the decision to fully follow Jesus.”

Title: The 40/80 window: the Dark Continent of Europe
Objective: help students gain a basic understanding of the grip that post-modernism, materialism and atheism has on modern Europe, the challenge of reaching immigrants and refugees there and the encouraging advancements seen in a few places.
Summary: Long a Christian continent, and the birthplace of the modern missions movement, Europe must now be considered a mission-field unto itself. Stories, statistics and trends will be shared to illustrate both the unique challenges to ministering to Europeans and immigrants and the wonderful opportunities and joys of laboring there.
Title: Leadership that Doesn’t Stink
Objective: the future leaders of churches, mission agencies and teams will be challenged to lead after the model of David … by grace and with confidence.
Summary: the bigger and more diverse a team gets, the harder it is to lead, and our temptation as leaders is to take the easy way out. When we do this, however, we very often stifle the growth of our teams and choke the life out of the people we lead. We ought to look at David’s example … how he suffered under the leadership of Saul, blazed a new path in his own leadership and handled the rebellion of Absalom.

How will God deal with those who have never heard the gospel? Is there
another way for these people who have not had an opportunity to accept or
reject Jesus? Do we really believe Jesus when He claims to be the only way
to the Father? Do your answers to these questions affect how and if you
share your faith? Bring other questions you may have to this discussion
on the subject of pluralism, inclusivism, exclusivism and reaching the
unreached peoples of the world.

"Jesus' Kingdom Crossing Boundaries"
These days the world becomes smaller with the remarkable development of technology and science. On the other hand, with its rapid change everyday, the world bears more diversity among people groups with their cultures, ideologies, and religions. This challenges Christian evangelism and discipleship efforts to be more solid and powerful but also flexible enough to cross diverse boundaries among people groups. The presenters of this workshop will share their experiences, methods and skills in doing 'life style evangelism' to advance Jesus' kingdom across the religions, cultures and generational gaps. Their ministry of prayer, cell group, and mentoring will be highlighted with stories of dramatic conversion and powerful transformation of people's lives. Also presenters will provide biblical and theological foundation and guidance to do life style evangelism more effectively in this rapidly changing postmodern world today.

Dr. Malcolm Hartnell --Ministering to Oral Audiences
For large portions of the world's population, acquiring new information through oral means (as opposed to reading) is the preferred way of learning. Understanding how oral populations think and communicate is key if we are going to effectively communicate biblical truth to these audiences. Learn basic characteristics of oral communication and how to effectively use Bible stories, songs, and other oral means for communicating the gospel from a cross-cultural worker who has spent the last 20 years ministering in an oral context.

"God's Heart for the Poor"
There are thousands of passages in the Bible about God's heart for the marginalizined and dispossessed. The implications of this theology are life altering. Let's take some time to discuss these. And begin to anticipate where they take us, into action.
"The Poor Change Me...”
That’s what Mother Teresa would often say. Many of us have found this to be true, that spiritual formation happens in mission among the dispossessed. Engagement among the poor bring me face to face with myself, my neediness and the Lord in a way that is so unique as to suggest, with M. Teresa, that it is with them that I am changed. We'll talk about this together.

"40 Gallons of Tea: Leading From Islam to Christ"
Workers among Muslims argue about methods, which are their actual practiced approaches, as will as methodologies which are the philosophies motivated them to pursue their approaches of: "how to reach Muslims." But, what was rarely heard or argued is: who want to invest more in the lives of the Muslims, and the costs involved in reaching Muslims for Christ. That is what this session will address.

DESIGNING AN IDEAL SHORT-TERM EXPERIENCE
The more quality effort we put into preparing our short-term teams, the better their experience will likely be. Let's discuss all the primary preparation ingredients - dates, leadership, budgeting, recruiting, training, commissioning, conflict resolution, debriefing, and evaluation.
EFFECTIVE SHORT-TERM MINISTRY
Let's go a bit deeper than the short-term basics to discuss issues relating to culture - what culture really is, how our expectations and biases affect our experience of it, how it can and will impact us and what we can do now to best prepare for it. This discussion should move us closer towards a theology and practice of biblical contextualization.

Take My Yoke…” – Apprenticeship to Jesus
Objective: Introduce an initiative that aims to rethink the common understandings of discipleship and restore its inseparable relationship with Jesus’ message, the kingdom of God, and the purpose for which we were created.
Summary: “Apprenticeship to Jesus” is an initiative of Antioch Network that seeks to foster the formation of Christ-like character through an intensive and experiential approach to discipleship. Rooted in the ancient Jewish practice of discipleship, modeled by Jesus, and expressed in various ways throughout the history of the Church, apprentices spend extended periods in the two primary contexts of retreat and engagement. Through retreat, apprentices find rest for their souls as they pursue an intimate conversational relationship with our loving Creator. In engagement, the hearts and minds of apprentices are reshaped by Jesus, the Master Teacher, through living simply and serving the poor, the needy and the oppressed. In each context, daily life is framed by a sacred rhythm of prayer, work and study.

Calling Campus America to Pray: Join us to explore a word from God to Pete Greig of 24-7 Prayer, to “Call Campus America to pray”. The vision is to create sacred space for every student in the United States to experience the presence of Jesus, through a one-year initiative of night-and-day prayer across Campus America in 2009-2010. God wants His universities back, and He gives us the privilege of playing a part in this dream. Come dialogue about how prayer - the core of all else – might explode on your campus, in your state, and in our nation. This is about Jesus being glorified.
Friendship & Community: Jesus says that there are 3 kinds of love that we must live our lives by – Love for God, Love for one another, and Love for the nations of the earth. We will focus on the essential and often-neglected topic of how we truly Love One Another as friends, community, the Church. We must live in and become a visible representation of God's dream for community, and this is key if we are to be tangible to the world around us. We’ll share a few stories, and this time will be discussion-rich with plenty of space for questions.

Human Trafficking: Taking Action Against Modern Day Slavery http://theirc.org Katie Resendiz
Each year over 800,000 people are forced into slavery. Through force, fraud, and coercion these victims are made to work and live in conditions no one would choose. We know about the children forced to work in brothels overseas, we hear about women made to toil in factories, we may even know about suspected cases in our own communities, but what can we do? Join us for an introduction to the facts and scope of human trafficking and a look at the impact on communities. Together we will look at services available to victims, legislation concerning trafficking, and how we as individuals can help victims. Participants will each create a plan of action so that, out of concern, we can create change.
